FRIDAY, AUGUST 30
Flight to Dubrovnik.Transfer by bus from the airport to the guest house. Plan an early flight if you would like to visit the city a bit (totally worth it). Meet the group around 16:00. Expedition and route presentation and briefing. Prep bicycles.
City tour and group dinner. Spend the night in the guest house.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 31 - Expedition departure
Elevation gain/loss: +700m / -700m
Distance: 75 to 90 km
First leg 75 km to the Bay of Kotor. We will take a ferry to Cavat, and then ride along the coastline, from one cove and quaint seaside village to the next. Cross the border from Croatia into Montenegro by bike.
When we reach the Bay of Kotor, part of the group will test the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry that crosses the bay to Kotor, while the rest of the group will bike around the entire bay (an extra 15 km).
Spend the night in a campground near Kotor.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
Elevation gain/loss: +1500m / -250m
Distance: 35 km
Visit Kotor and the bay in the morning and then leave for Lovćen National Park. The first hard climb of the day is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor. We will reach Mount Lovćen just in time for sunset. Spend the night camping in the national park.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
Elevation gain/loss: +500m / -2000m
Distance: 35 km
Ride to legendary Skadar Lake, stopping in Rijeka Crnojevića, the gateway to the national park. We will spend the end of the day and night exploring the area's spectacular landscapes.
TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3-4
Elevation gain/loss: +3000 m / -1700 m
Distance: 55 km to 60 km
We will ride off to Prokletije National Park, passing through Montenegro's capital city of Podgorica, and then cross the Albanian border by bike. Spend the night in Albania near Celcë. The next day we should reach the national park by the end of the afternoon, after crossing the border back into Montenegro.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 - Visit Prokletije National Park on foot.
We will leave the bikes locked up for the day as we set out to explore the park on foot. Possibility of taking a rest day for those who would like to.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
Elevation gain/loss: +2000 m / -3000 m
Distance: 85 km
Another visit to one of the area's many national parks, this time we'll ride through Biogradska Gora National Park, before heading out the next day towards Durmitor National Park's incredible mountain landscapes. Spend the night camping in the national park.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7
Elevation gain/loss: +1900 m / -1600 m
Distance: 75 km.
Ride for for 60 km along the Tara River, and enjoy breathtaking views as it winds through the deepest canyon in Europe (1300 meters). This will be our last day of cycling, since we plan spend our time on an extraordinary hike the next day.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8
In Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, enjoy a wide variety of breathtaking landscapes. We will explore its natural wonders hiking through the park to see its canyons, mountains, and glacial lakes up close.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9
Transfer to Dubrovnik by shuttle after spending one last night under the stars. Flight home (starting at noon).

Plan to take lightweight gear and only the strict minimum! On a bike (like on a trek), every gram counts. Your bag should not weigh more than 12kg. Upon arrival in Dubrovnik (Croatia), your gear will packed in bike bags. Take 5L to 10L bags (waterproof if possible) to carry some of the group gear.
Group gear and food will also be handed out.
Please note: the more weight you carry, the more difficult the climbs and the overall ride.

Terms and conditions to participate
This expedition requires being in good shape and the ability to adapt to a wide variety of terrain. This is a reconnaissance trip to map out the route we plan to use in 2020. We will visit several locations, some that will not be selected for next year’s expedition. The places we camp and distances might vary based on weather conditions and difficulty. You will need to be flexible, but that’s what adventure is all about!
