DAY BY DAY
We will spend most of our time between 1800m and 3796m elevation, gaining anywhere from 800m to 1200m of vertical per day. Our program may change due to the weather, conditions, or how participants are feeling.
Meet at the small Mauvoisin hotel-restaurant in Fionnay, at 09:00. Welcome, expedition presentation, gear check, and backpack prep. The trek starts here. No need for crampons on the first day as we take the time to gain altitude and enjoy the beautiful fall colors of this spectacular mountain valley. Our route takes us around the shores of Mauvoisin Lake. We should reach the Chanrion Hut by the end of the afternoon. Group dinner at the hut.
DAY 2 - Chanrion Hut - Otemma Glacier - Vignettes Hut
DAY 3 - Vignettes Hut - Upper Arolla Glacier
DAY 4 - Vignettes Hut - Mont Collon Glacier - Bertol Hut
DAY 5 - Bertol Hut - Summit Tête Blanche Peak - Stockji Glacier - Schönbiel Hut
DAY 6 - Schönbiel Hut - Zmutt Glacier - Zermatt
We will eat our last breakfast at the hut before heading down to Zermatt and back to civilization. After a final celebratory drink together, we will hop onto the train that takes us out of this car-free mountain village to Täsch. From there, a shuttle bus will take everyone back to Fionnay. We should reach the parking lot and our cars at around 17:00.
Since we will spend 5 to 8 hours per day hiking, including 4 days using a harness, crampons, and rope, this trek is reserved for experienced hikers in great shape. Beginner mountaineers are welcome. You will be carrying a pack that weighs 12kg - 15kg, inlcuding 4kg - 5kg of food.
